Feast of
The Dormition of the Theotokos
On August 15 we keep the falling-asleep of the Most Holy Mother of God — the Pascha of summer.
The Church remembers on this day that the one who carried Life Himself did not see the corruption of the grave. Her departure from this life is not loss but a passing-over — *metastasis* — to her Son. The apostles, gathered by miracle from the four corners of the earth, lay her body in the tomb at Gethsemane; three days later, when Thomas arrived late, they opened it and found only her burial cloths.
We will keep the feast with great vespers on the eve and a festal divine liturgy the following morning.
